Description

Spread over two 3 hour classes Jason introduces the process of slip casting in a fun and engaging way.

With an emphasis on keeping each process and step simple and easy to understand Jason will walk you through the entire process of slip casting from start to finish. 

With a look at safety working with clay, making moulds, pouring slip, cleaning up greenware and the firing and glazing process, you will leave the class with your moulds and finished slipcasted works.

The slip casting techniques can be used to replicate forms such as simple vessels, mugs, vases, bowls and plates.

Jason will also explain the method of making your own slip, A process which he uses in this own practice.

Your own creativity and idea are welcome in this class as Jason believes that up-skilling and learning new things should be a fun and highly hands on experience.  

Please wear comfortable clothing and closed in shoes that you don’t mind getting dirty!

You will be able to collect your finished piece 3 -4 weeks after the workshop, once it has been glazed and fired.

No prior experience is necessary! This workshop is perfect for beginners or anyone looking to expand their ceramic knowledge.

No shows will not be refunded, as we are a not for profit, any transfer of classes will incur a $10 fee to cover admin staff time.

Course Tutor - Jason Penfold

Jason is a Melbourne based artist with a passion for form and all things sculpture. Jason believes that knowledge of materials and processes are a key foundation for creativity to be built on.  As a teacher Jason aims to communicate simply and allow room students to bring their own sense of creativity and play to the class as he believes that these elements bring a sense of ease and calm to any art practice.

In his ceramic practice, Jason explores minerals and their properties in the ceramic process. Jason is currently currently producing a collection of vessel for the project A Study of Honey

Had a fabulous time learning the basics of mold making and then the slip casting. Jason was personable and a good teacher with some great tips. Really glad I did this and look forward to making my own casts.

Jason is lovely and super helpful. The class size was just right. Found all the hints and tips super helpful. Would recommend to other potters who are looking to try slip casting.

Cancellations & Refunds

If the organiser cancels the class:

You are entitled to a full refund.

If you can't attend the class:

You’re welcome to send someone in your place.

OR

  • A refund can be requested 14 days before class starts. An admin fee of AU$10.00 applies.
  • A transfer can be requested 14 days before the class starts. An admin fee of AU$10.00 applies.

No changes will be allowed after these times.

Terms & Conditions

We require 2 week notice in writing (email) prior to the class commencing for a full refund or transfer. In the event that a class is cancelled, students will be notified via text message or email and will be given a full refund.
