ABOUT THE COURSE

Is it really possible to make a sterling silver ring in one day from scratch – with no experience at all? Well, it certainly is at SquarePeg Studios.

This one day jewellery making course makes a great gift and is a great introduction for students who would like to see if they enjoy working with metal. It’s perfect for those who would like to make a ring for themselves, for a partner or friend.

Students experiment and sample copper (some make a copper ring first) and then incorporate these new skills into a sterling silver band. All tools and materials, including copper and a silver strip, are provided.

MEET YOUR TUTOR

Contemporary jeweller Erin Keys creates graphic works based on ideas in mark making, using traditional jewellery making techniques and laser cutting technology. Her practice involves developing work for exhibition, production and sale. Living in Bosnia Herzegovina 2006-2008, Erin taught creative workshops to Romani children before joining the JamFactory’s Metal Design Studio. After completing the 2 year tenure Erin spent 10 months at Australia's iconic Gray Street Workshop; an invaluable residency in her career and personal development. Moving to Sydney in 2010 she joined SquarePeg Studios, a workshop for emerging and established jewellers to work together in a creative and supportive environment, where she is an active tenant, mentor and teacher. As a Design Developer at Dinosaur Designs, a manufacturer of homewares and jewellery, Erin worked in a small team developing and prototyping designs.

Awesome class with an awesome result. I had no prior experience with anything to do with jewellery and was able to create a great finished product. Teacher guided the whole class very well throughout the day

Emily's class was wonderful - the information was presented in an easy to digest manner, very hands on, with no time wasted. The teacher was also very helpful and supportive of our creative urges and ideas, taking time with each of us to ensure we enjoyed what we were making and happy with the end results.
