Who is Aliça?

Aliça runs RARA Studio (@hellorarastudio), a Melbourne-based ceramics business.

She makes unique, hand-built objects for the home and to wear.

Aliça has a background in fine art and has a love for natural materials and objects, especially the look and feel of handmade work. She originally studied ceramics with a Japanese ceramicist but is primarily self-taught. Each piece she makes is one of a kind, with the marks of the maker celebrated, forming the texture of the work.

She sells her ceramics online, with stockists across Australia and overseas. You can also find her at markets like Big Design Market and the Melbourne Ceramics Market. Her work has been featured in Frankie, Yen and Country Style Magazine.

Aliça works locally from her studio in Thornbury, with her three studio helpers, Teti (dog), Claudia and Sybil (cats).

17 July 2019 • Ceramic hand building and glazing workshop

This was a really enjoyable and relaxing class. Aliça runs a very well organised program (and also supplied delicious snacks and tea), which delivers what it promises-you will make and glaze something! Thanks Aliça!

I'm not one for trying new things but when I saw this ad pop up, I thought what the heck- lets give it a go! So glad I did as I surprisingly really enjoyed it. Alica - a soft spoken, super welcoming, friendly, patient and helpful teacher was amazing. Her selection of beautiful work was not only scattered as a display on the workbench, but the peices also allowed us to use them as inspiration to create our own. The warming tea, home baked goods and the comforting music in the background really gave me a chance to find my creative and spend a few hours just enjoying this creative space. Very therapeutic and a class well worth the time!

09 April 2019 • Ceramic hand building and glazing workshop

This was my second ceramics workshop with Aliça – the difference being that the first one was just the one day workshop. I highly recommend taking this two part course because you get to focus on hand building in the first session and glazing in the second. You get more time to digest the information (and delicious homemade cookies Aliça brought in) and make your pieces a little more "thoughtful" :-) Really enjoyed it and hope she comes out with more ceramic-related workshops!
