Resin-obsessed crazy button hoarder, Jodie Dench creates individual resin buttons and handmade resin jewellery under her label, ButtonUp Designs. Each and every piece is handcrafted and designed in her Sydney home studio, combining new, pre-loved, vintage and handmade resin buttons to create unique, eclectic wearable jewellery.
It was through a lack of owning original jewellery that Jodie started to create her own designs using buttons that were passed down through the generations. Jodie’s designs have developed into one of a kind pieces and with her love of combining chaotic colours, Jodie opened her Etsy store ButtonUp Deisgns in 2010. Since then, Jodie’s love for creating statement jewellery designs has led her to facilitating private and community-based resin jewellery workshops at Sydney-based community colleges and arts centres.
ButtonUp Designs includes a variety of statement pieces using handmade resin, vintage, pre-loved and new buttons that have been collected, made and sourced from a variety of places. Ranging from sweet, subtle small and quiet pieces to loud big bright handmade resin statement designs, ButtonUp Designs include wearable necklaces, earrings, brooches, bangles and rings. ButtonUp Designs also runs one-on-one and group resin jewellery workshops suitable for anyone wanting to create their own designs.
When Jodie is not working on new ideas, you will find her uncovering hidden treasures at markets and napping with Crumpet the kittah.
I enjoyed the Resin Jewellery class, and our instructor gave very clear instructions and was more than happy to come around and explain things one-on-one. We had a great range of colours to use, and plenty of resin for the four items. My only complaint was that the finishing section of the course was extremely rushed. It wasn't until I was home and my partner showed me how to properly wet-sand with a larger range of much finer grade sandpaper that I became happy with my creations.
Jodie was very thorough and patient dealing with us newbies. Overall it was a fun and exciting class learning something new. Defo recommended for resin curious and jewellry addict like myself☺️👍
This class was a lot of fun! It was practical, well taught and really enjoyable. To top that all off you went home with four pieces of handmade (by you) pieces of jewellery. Resin jewellery making is addictive and easy to master. The class set you up with all of the basic knowledge that you need to start creating. The teacher, Jodie, was enthusiastic, will with her time and knowledge and created a great learning atmosphere. I would recommend this class to all those with a creative flair and enjoy making art to wear for themselves or their family. You will be coming back for more. Big Gold Stars!
