Description

Work-Shop Brisbane hold this incredibly popular class regularly and we are stoked to welcome Harley Barnes-Roos (of Harley & Händen) to the Northern Rivers to teach us her modern stichery magic!

There are so many great things happening in the embroidery world these days. Gone are the old-fashioned needlepoint projects of yesteryear, replaced with a new crop of fantastic modern stitchery.

In this workshop you will learn how to make your very own super crafty hand embroidered hoop. Create a unique design or quote to stitch, and take home. These skills will also come in handy for patching up a rip or making an old shirt look awesome!

Choose from a colourful array of fabrics and cottons – to create a personalised design of your choice, and mount it on your wall and be the envy of all your friends!

ABOUT YOUR TEACHER

Harley was born and raised in Townsville, North Queensland and made the big move down here four years ago after graduating from year 12 to pursue her love of graphic design.

Before she even started schooling, Harley would sew with her Ma at their craft-a-noons and throughout middle school she started to experiment with paper collage. In high school she would be asked to make bags and pencil cases for her friends embellished with some embroidery. It never crossed her mind that she could make a career out of any of the two disciplines until she discovered a collage community in Brooklyn, NY after a college assessment and after being introduced to the wide world of Etsy.

It was then in October 2014 that Harley started taking it seriously and along came Harley & Händen. Since then H&H has been published in the Etsy Newsletter, TBCMAG Issue 7 and The Eye Creative calendar and just to humble brag – been recognised by Diplo.

She held her first solo show on her 21st birthday and has exhibited with Primary Arcade, The Brisbane Collective, Brisbane Street Art Festival, Brisbane Collage Club, RAW and Paste Modernism 4.

She now spends her time between her art and her graphic design job.
