Sew Far Sew Good is an introductory workshop on making handmade embroidered pieces through a mixture of learning traditional techniques and tricks from an 'accidental professional'. These pieces can be as display pieces or made into patches. No matter what the participants skill level, the class will focus on gearing their design ideas to their ability. Whether you need to learn to thread a needle or are a professional, its a class on finding little tricks and hacks to making your own unique embroidered piece.
Danielle firm believer in just making things, making mistakes and figuring things out along the way. There is no right or wrong way to work and I know with that, everyone will enjoy the workshop. To sum up what I'm thinking: If your not making mistakes your doing something wrong. Which means your making a mistake. Which means your fine.
About the tutor:
I am a fibre artist born and bred in Cape Town, South Africa. Since graduating from the Red and Yellow School of Advertising in 2010 I have jumped between various jobs and disciplines including design, photography and vjing (which is not what you think) all the while embroidery has remained a constant hobby. My vocation as an embroiderer has grown slowly since 2013, using an array of threads and wool to create bold and quirky images on a variety of surfaces, from coffee bags, shoes, tennis rackets and rusted iron gates. Embroidery was something I feel like I stumbled on by mistake and slowly through trial and error, never knowing the traditional methods or being stuck between the boundaries of the 'do's and dont's' I managed to find my own little a groove in the wonderful world of textiles and thread.
Since 2015 I have been features in various publications including CNN, The New York times, Colossal and Vogue.com. Some clients of 2016 and 2017 include The United Nations, Gucci, Adobe and Drew Barrymore.
- Everyone will receive Danielle's special sewing kit to take home to continue making badass pieces
- Snacks provided throughout the day
- Beers and wine to get them creative juices flowing!
- Every student will get an exclusive and limited edition Danielle Clough Print
- If you have your own favourite pencil or pens, bring them along!
- Any reference material that you want to bring will be great. Books, designs, ideas and photos. These can simply be on your phone.
- You can also bring anything that you may want to sew, practice or adorn. Part of the workshop is showing you hacks on how to get your ideas together, and onto fabric.
