What’s better than beer and BBQ? How about a Beer and BBQ rooftop cooking class! In this fun, hands-on and informative class, Joel will teach you everything you need to know about cooking on a BBQ to get you inspired for the summer and festive season.
From slow cooked beef cheeks to charred vegetables and grilled fish - the ease and versatility of cooking on a BBQ means the possibilities are endless. Joel will take you through recipes for a full dinner, with both hands-on and demonstration elements to the class. You’ll even learn how to make your own corn tortillas to cook on the BBQ and then wrap everything up in!
Quench your thirst throughout the night with Natural Lager, Newtowner Pale Ale and Cloudy Cider from our friends at Young Henrys. This class is suitable for beginner cooks, or even those more experienced who are just looking for some new inspiration and a fun night of great food and beer.
About Joel Van Bussel
Originally from Port Macquarie in New South Wales, Joel has been a chef for 12 years and has been brought up in the food and restaurant industry with his Dad also a chef. His vast experience spans from working in pubs, restaurants, fine dining, cafés and hotels, with many styles of food covered over his career so far. Joel also has experience in small and medium scale food manufacturing for artisan producers making hand made products from amazing local produce, always working directly with producers. Since moving to Adelaide in the past few years, Joel has worked at Unley café Pickle in the Middle, and currently works at the newly opened First Order café with a unique and delicious Eastern-European inspired menu.
Joel believes that using the best quality ingredients available to you and keeping food simple is the best way to achieve great results in the kitchen, no matter your experience level. He loves to use different methods of cooking to bring out the best flavours possible in food.

Work-Shop requires 48 hours notice in writing prior to the class for a full refund or transfer. Refunds and transfers will not be processed if cancellation occurs within 48 hours of the event commencing. If you do miss this window, earn some extra karma points and give your ticket to one of your buddies. For cancellations prior to the 48 hour cut off, email email@example.com to organise a refund or transfer.
We’ll do our darndest to run all scheduled classes, however, let’s face it… sometimes shit happens! Most of our classes must have a minimum of 5 participants before we can put them on. In the event that a class is cancelled, students will be notified via text message or email and entitled to a full refund or credit.
Anyone partaking in any classes or coming to any events at Work-Shop or organised by Work-Shop must agree to these terms and conditions.

- Any damage, loss or theft incurred to personal property property brought into Work-Shop’s premises.
- Any physical injuries sustained as a result of participating in any class or event organised by Work-Shop.

2.) PHOTO & VIDEO
I agree to give Work-Shop unrestricted publishing rights for any photographs or videos taken at Work-Shop classes and events or on Work-Shop’s premises. (Don’t worry, we’ll only these use to show others how much of a rad time you’re having through social media, newsletters, blogs, website and general Work-Shop promo material)
