Description

This introductory beginners sewing class will teach you all the basics to get you started on mastering your sewing machine. You'll learn basic sewing skills including how to cut fabric, how to use a simple pattern, and how to perform a few different stitches.

You will learn the fundamentals of your sewing machine and the basic sewing techniques to get you started. We’ll cover the various parts of the machine and get to know what each component does and how to use them. Once we've nailed these we'll put them to use, making a simple skirt or pair of shorts you can take home with you! Bring along some fabric you like (1.5 x 1.5m of cotton or linen) and your own sewing machine to learn on if you have one - otherwise, you can hire one from us.

If you are bringing a brand new machine along, please come to the workshop 10-15 minutes prior so Laura can help you set it up!

15 May 2018 • Sewing 101

The Sewing 101 class was the warmest and friendliest. I learnt to set up my machine, sew all the different stitches, follow a pattern and adjust it to size, hem edges and sew a pair of shorts! Laura was amazing, as if it was the first time she had taught a class! We were all allowed to go at our own pace and ask as many questions as needed. The feels felt when putting the elastic round were electric. Tunes and snacks, threads and hacks, What a time, Pick this class! Bobbins-a-poppin, stitch over lockin. Turn it over, Stitch that stocking! It was truly the best! Small, cosy and so fucking fun!

Sewing 101 provided participants at all levels with simple sewing basics from understanding the various functions of your sewing machine, regardless of the make of your machine, to following a basic pattern to produce a skirt or a pair of shorts. Laura was very patient and helpful with each participant getting individual coaching as needed.
