Did you know that it takes 20 minutes of distraction-free concentration to reach full cognitive capacity? Most of us don’t go more than a couple of minutes before our attention is diverted elsewhere. Our mighty minds are being restarted before they even fully load. Luckily, there’s a secret weapon in deep work. Deep work, or flow, is the capacity to concentrate on one task without distractions for extended periods of time. In a mire of pinging smartphones, deep work is arguably the rarest and most valuable skill you can possess.
Deep work means accessing your brain’s full capacity, whether that’s creativity, precision, efficiency, or something else. Once distractions are reduced, so too is stress. Deep work is a weapon of destruction against distraction. We’ll cover the science behind focus and distraction, seven strategies for creating a practice of deep work in any area of your life, and techniques to train your brain to concentrate. Focus your mindbeam like a laser and destroy distraction.
