Melbourne’s felt queen, Cat Rabbit, is gracing us with her fuzzy presence and needle knowledge in this X-hour plush character workshop for adults. Cat will walk you through the process of transforming a 2D sketch into a soft 3D friend. First you’ll draft your pal on paper with guidance from Cat on developing a character and adapting it to an existing template. Next, the pattern is cut with felt and proper stitching techniques are outlined.
And then comes the fun part - accessorising your little buddy to the nines. Express his giant personality with tiny handmade goods - is he an aviator? A garbage man? A bird watcher? This class is for those with a fondness for felt and basic sewing skills. Plush kits are provided, but participants are asked to bring their own fabric scissors. Delve into Cat’s fluffy mind, explore the wonders of felt, and you’ll leave with a mini companion all your own.
Cat Rabbit is a Melbourne-based textile artist and designer whose plush sculptural works have enamoured the city for years. She works out of her home studio with the feline Porco, and sometimes a cosy space in the Nicholas Building in the CBD. Cat regularly works with her longtime friend Isobel Knowles making children’s books under Soft Stories. She’s worked with Frankie Magazine, NGV, Melbourne Girls Grammar School, and a whole bunch more.
