ABOUT ALYSON MCGRATH

I found my passion for mosaic art over 15 years ago. I was gifted a mosaic kit and I literally spent the next week immersed in pieces of glass and old pieces of tile. I have always been a bit arty and creative. Through discovering and exploring mosaics, I felt I had come home to myself – such is the power of creativity.

Working with objects (lost & found) adds another dimension to the beauty of mosaic art. I lose myself in taking someone’s old item and creating a treasure. I love looking at an object (piece of wood, old hat, old boot) and seeing it live once more – as ART!

I love the tactile element of mosaics – to me it is about touch AND colour. I am not one who always creates flat mosaics although I do appreciate the skill involved in such works of art. I want my mosaics to be handled as a way of connecting and engaging with the art.

The Mosaic Art morning gave us the information, tools and materials to complete a piece. The teacher's knowledge and enthusiasm for Mosaic Art was inspiring. There was a wide variety of materials to use and everything was demonstrated thoroughly. A most enjoyable morning!
