Growers and Grand Marques. Vintage and NV. Biodynamic and Organic. This challenge has it all.
Do the well known grand marque labels like Bolly RD or Cristal still tower above their counterparts?
12 super premium Champagnes (and maybe a ringer thrown in), blind tasted. Can you spot the icons?
What we might include............Louis Roederer, Pol Roger, Laurent Perrier, Agrapart, Bollinger...............amongst others, but we don’t want to spoil the surprise!
A light meal will be served with these exquisite wines.
I brought my wife and two friends who love champagne, we all had a fantastic time and really did learn quite a lot including being exposed to some Champagne labels that we were not familiar or hadn't had much chance to drink due to their high price such as Cristal. Phil was a great host and very funny through the night. It was a lot of fun to try and pick which wines we were blind tasting and it was surprising to find some of the bubbles that we liked the most were not necessarily the more expensive ones. I thoroughly recommend the event for anyone who loves champagne. I was also lucky enough to win the door prize of wonderful pack or Riedel glassware! Awesome.
An interesting and informative look at current release champagne and sparkling wines, complimented by the considered approach to identifying flavours for enthusiastic consumer tasters and not just trade. For many, it was an opportunity to try some expensive and harder to source wines. Very knowledgable staff and setting for the Challenge.
I learned about the different grape used in making French champagne. There is always something new. I bought Andre Clouet grand reserve. An explosion of flavour
