Have you ever wondered how clothes, sheets, towels, curtains and other kinds of fabrics are made? It starts with spinning yarn, something people have been doing for over 20,000 years.
In this hands-on class, you'll be introduced to the ancient art of spinning on a drop spindle, including the construction of your own spindle from easily-accessible materials. You'll learn the basics of twist, drafting fibre, and creating a continuous thread. You'll also learn how to ply and finish your yarn, and get ideas on how to use it in craft projects.
This class is for crafty kids aged 8 and over, taught by a professional Early Childhood educator. All adults present will have valid Working With Children Checks. Caregivers are welcome to drop off their kids for the class, or stay and support.
