Mokume Gane is a traditional Japanese technique of fusing ferrous (steel) and non ferrous (copper, brass, nickel, silver, gold) metals to create beautiful multicoloured patterns for use in jewellery, knifemaking and sculpture
Learn how to develop a billet (block) of mokume and how to achieve the pattern you desire in the finished piece. Students will learn how to fuse the different metal components so that they remain together and how to forge the billet at high temperature to produce a pattern.
To allow for close supervision, this intensive course has a small class size of 4 students.
You will get
- A piece of jewellery, a pendant or ring made from your own Mokume
- Eye, ear and hand protection will be provided, however feel free to bring your own if you prefer.
- Fusing a billet of Mokume with correct temperature and setup
- Forge welding with use of a press
- Revealing and developing the pattern using forging and stock removal techniques

Cclothing appropriate for a workshop. This includes long pants and sleeves preferably natural fibre, solid shoes/boots.

Learn the metal arts at Eveleigh Works in Redfern, Sydney. Get your hands dirty with our short courses in blacksmithing, knife and tool-making. Courses for newbies and old hands, instructed by practicing craftspeople within the heritage workshop of an 1880s locomotive factory.
Eveleigh Works requires 48 hours notice via email prior to the start of a class or event for a full refund or transfer. Refunds and transfers will not be processed if cancellation occurs within 48 hours of the event commencing. We do not offer refunds for missed classes. There are no fees for refunds or transfers. For cancellations prior to the 48 hour cut off, email Eveleigh Works to organise a refund or transfer
Anyone partaking in any classes or coming to any events at Eveleigh Works or organised by Eveleigh Works must agree to these terms and conditions.
1.) LIABILITY WAIVER
I agree to take on full responsibility for any damages, injuries and for physical and/or personal property, which I might incur whilst participating in classes and/or events organised by Eveleigh Works.
2.) PHOTO & VIDEO
I agree to give Eveleigh Works unrestricted publishing rights for any photographs or videos taken at Eveleigh Works classes and events or on Eveleigh Works's premises. (For use of Eveleigh Works marketing materials).
