Description

After warm-up paper collage and sketching exercises and a discussion about the student’s ideas and aims we will continue on to explore ideas with fabrics and threads. Students will learn 5 popular embroidery traditional stitches together with an exploration of ideas and process. The format of the finished pieces will vary depending upon the student’s approach. Options include a piece for framing, to appliqué onto clothing, to incorporate into a tote bag, to make into gift cards, pages for a stitch meditations book or any other applications that the students may consider.

This workshop will take 2 hours.

Generous bundles of beautiful fabrics will be supplied along with stabilisers, threads and needles.

Students are encouraged to also bring their own fabrics and threads if they feel these are elements they wish to include into their work. All other materials will be provided.

Morgan Higgins is an accredited Professional Member of Craft Victoria. The desire to construct her own fabric led Morgan to the process of Saori style weaving. This style of weaving, developed by the late Misao Jo, embodies a concept of not simply weaving cloth, but weaving your true self.

Morgan incorporates recycled yarn, fabric and clothing into her pieces as a contribution to maximising resources. She applies her fabric to installations, wall pieces, soft furnishings and clothing. Her woven textiles, embroidery, drawing, photography and video are further explored in various formats including zines, artist books, limited edition prints and installation.

Guild Of Objects

Vendor since 2019

In the not so distant past we were able to explore and engage in a creative space within the boundaries of our domestic environment. More recently with the advent of mass produced furnishings and readily available home decor, coupled with a trend toward apartment living and the rise of the dual income family then this space for the creative endeavour within the domestic sphere has all but disappeared.

In recognition of this the Guild of Objects is a space that supports and holds space for all to pursue, source or explore their own innate creativity. The Guild provides a space for artists, craftspeople and makers to sell their products. The Guild runs workshops in a beautiful home like environment that gives everyone the opportunity to explore their own creativity and finally the Guild organises and runs design, craft and art tours to Japan, Bali and France in order to provide a forum to explore the world through a creative lens.

The Guild is a space that honours the notion of Connection through Creativity

Connections with ones creativity, connection with ones self and connection to others through mutual pursuit.

Come and visit us at 35 Smith Street, Fitzroy 3065 Australia.
