TEXTILES | LOG CABIN AND SLOW STITCHING

 PAY WHAT YOU CAN

At the Guild Of Objects we know how important it is to connect to the power of creativity to help us through the adversities we face in our lives. We also believe that it is important to give back to the community during these troubled times. As a result we have created this as an opportunity for those that have been deeply affected by this current pandemic or general life circumstances. This might include but not limited to, having lost your job, you are a full time carer, you are struggling financially or you are doing it tough. If this feels like you we want to offer you the special opportunity to come and enjoy a few hours of immersing yourself in creativity, while sipping on a cups of tea and being part of a wonderful community.

LOG CABIN AND SLOW STITCHING

This class is where we step into slow. Using the Log Cabin technique to create intricate pieces using precious scraps of cloth allows you to slow down in a hectic world and take pleasure in simple stitches and simple processes.

We will be stitching patchwork blocks using recycled cloth to embed meaning into your piece. This is a slow, whimsical process, which results in a layered textile artwork which is unique to each maker. You will create a 10 x 10cm patch/es which could then be used to create a coaster, a sewing book.  Create multiple pieces to create a bag, throw or even added to an item of clothing - it's up to you!

There is no right or wrong way to approach your project. Relax and unwind whilst experiencing the joy and gratification of being immersed in mindful creativity, hand stitching a work of art.

Patchwork centres around the “make do and mend” and “waste not, want not” ethos of yesteryear. It is a nod to the generations that came before ours in which reusing and recycling were necessary and admirable. This is not a complicated process which relies on numerous fancy, perfectly executed stitches and fastidious neatness, but rather, it's about embracing the timeworn nature of our materials, and the individuality of our stitching.

Pick up a needle and thread and lose yourself in this meditative process where simplicity is key.

Your Guild Experience

This class is being run by the Guild of Objects. We are a social enterprise whose mission is to support artists and craftspeople of all skill levels in their creative journey, whether they’re established professionals or simply curious about a new craft.

All of our classes are artist led and the income that we generate from these workshops goes directly to supporting our creative community. Our classes are run out of our very cool and conveniently located studio in Hardware Lane, Melbourne.

We understand the importance of connection, which is why most of our workshops are limited to approximately 12 participants. This way you get quality one-on-one tuition time with your teacher while also having time to chat with your classmates. Yes, of course, we serve you a sneaky glass of prosecco or a cold beer - we cater for all our students!

So if you’re looking for a relaxed creative experience in a really lovely location and the chance to meet new people, we welcome you to join us at the Guild.

CORONAVIRUS (COVID-19) RESPONSE

The Guild of Objects has put together an action plan to mitigate the risks from coronavirus (Covid-19).

The Guild of Objects acknowledges the health risks of people gathering together but sees events such as workshops are a vital part of our community and can continue to be a place of safety and enjoyment if everyone plays their part.

The objective of the Guild is to support Artists, Makers and Craftspeople and as such our workshops provide financial support for the artists who work with us.

At all our events we will be putting in place additional hygiene measures in order to help minimise the possibility of contamination. This will include hand washing facilities and an increase in the frequency of cleaning of shared spaces.

We have limited the number of participants at each workshop to 12 as this will ensure that we can maintain the recommended social distance between participants.

If you are ill or have been placed into home isolation the Guild will allow you to transfer into a later workshop or if you give us 48 hours’ notice we will provide a refund.

While we have put hygiene measures and increased our efforts to minimise contamination, attendance at our workshops is at your own risk.

We value your continued support in helping keep the Guild going during these difficult times.

Please remember that our online store remains open and will work tirelessly to ensure that there are no delays in dispatching your orders.

We will continue to update and change our policy as more information is known. Thank you for your understanding and ongoing support.
