At Hagens we are now offering butchery classes. These are run from our Richmond Store on Thursdays from 6pm until 9pm.

Our Introduction to Butchery class covers firstly organic butchery practice, then we demonstrate how beef is broken down into its primal cuts, whilst at the same time explaining different uses for each cut of meat.

This is a great oppurtunity to learn about some lesser known cuts and how to prepare them; and why we approach each cut differently.

Then it will then be your turn to pick up a knife and prepare your own cut of meat.

This is a "hands on class" and the classes are limited to 8 people with 2 butchers to watch over and guide you. 

You will take home the meat that you butcher on the night, also we will provide you with a boning knife and butchers apron to keep.

At the end of the class there is a meal included matched with an appropriate beer or wine. 

The class runs from 6pm until 9pm.

Cancellation & Refund Policy

Hagens Organic Butcher requires 48 hours notice via email prior to the start of a class or event for a full refund or transfer.  Refunds and transfers will not be processed if cancellation occurs within 48 hours of the event commencing. We do not offer refunds for missed classes. There are no fees for refunds or transfers. For cancellations prior to the 48 hour cut off, email Hagens Organic Butcher to organise a refund or transfer

Anyone partaking in any classes or coming to any events at Hagens Organic Butcher or organised by Hagens Organic Butcher must agree to these terms and conditions.


I agree to take on full responsibility for any damages, injuries and for physical and/or personal property, which I might incur whilst participating in classes and/or events organised by Hagens Organic Butcher.


I agree to give Hagens Organic Butcher unrestricted publishing rights for any photographs or videos taken at Hagens Organic Butcher classes and events or on Hagens Organic Butcher's premises. (For use of Hagens Organic Butcher marketing materials).

An up close session watching a butcher carve a half carcass of beef, with explanations on the different cuts and suggestions on how the cuts could be cooked. In the last 20 mins of the course, participants are provided with a generous ribeye roast to prepare for cooking and to take home with them. Apart from the latter, there was no other hands on experience. Class concludes with a delicious roast dinner.
