Introduction to Tablet Weaving on an Inkle Loom
Description
Prerequisite: Suitable for anyone with basic inkle loom weaving experience (i.e. can warp up inkle loom and do plain weave). But we can also accommodate beginners to inkle weaving if required.
You may have seen re-enactors dressed in medieval garb rotating squares suspended in yarn and wondered ‘what on earth are they doing?’ Why, they’re tablet weaving of course!
It is an ancient technique that still entrances many modern weavers, where unique, sturdy and beautiful bands of great intricacy can be produced with minimal equipment.
Tablet weaving can appear complex and scary, but it doesn’t have to be. This introductory workshop will guide you how to warp up a simple tablet weaving project on an inkle loom, navigate the weaving charts and produce your very own tablet woven band (you won’t even need to dress in medieval clothes). You too may become enchanted by tablet weaving and will be well equipped to explore all the amazing things it has to offer. Your tutor is Long Bui
