Monday Night Beginner Hand-building
Description
So we've taken what we've learned from our last two months running this class and have distilled it down to an awesome 4 weeks of HOT CLAY ACTION!
We'll be running this class as 4 week terms, so you will need to sign up before the start date and can no longer join us at any point.
Monday Night Hand-building!
This class, aimed at complete beginners, will take you on your first foray into the world of ceramics. We start the journey off on...
Night One
On your first night we'll start with the basics, Pinch Pots! We'll make a small bowl or cup to get a feel for the clay and dial in your most important tools.
After the first pot we'll graduate to coiling, using our newfound pinching skills to make the base of a taller vessel like a bud-vase or a breakfast bowl.
Night Two
We'll follow up with Slab-Building! Covering how to create a slab with out any fancy tools, the importance of compression, how to know when your clay is ready to work with and how to create solid joins.
To help us understand our slabs and how it work them we'll first make a mug or cup, this gives us a chance to make and attach a handle and learn about bending soft slabs.
After that we'll move onto using a firm slab to construct a desk organiser or trinket box learning about using bevels to create stronger bonds.
Night Three
Night three is all about the decoration! First we'll decorate all of our pieces from the previous weeks using under-glazes, sgraffito, stamps and glazes.
Then we will create a plate exploring other techniques like coloured inlays, texturing, clay slips and more.
Night Four
On that last night of our course you get to take everything you've learned and put it to practical use and make your very own creation! We will help and guide you through the process, but you will need to BYO creativity!
