Course tutors:
Mondays - Liljana Cerilles
Based in Naarm/Melbourne, Liljana is a pottery maker, teacher and owner of a small ceramic practice, Kokoro Clay. Inspired by her Philippine and Japanese heritage, and a childhood spent living around the world, Liljana seeks to reimagine familiar functional forms and simple shapes to serve as anchors to everyday moments. Through Kokoro (which means ‘heart’ in Japanese) she further explores the possibility that the daily use of thoughtfully considered, hand-crafted pieces can provide comfort and encourage mindfulness. A perpetual student of the medium, it is a joy for Liljana to share with all her love of clay and its endless possibilities. To see exmaples of her work click here.
Tuesdays - Jess Dybing
Jess Dybing is in her 3rd year studying ceramics at RMIT and has a love for all things clay. Jess’s practice is focused on glaze chemistry and altering surface decoration through raw ingredients and firing schedules. She has been wheel throwing for around 4 years and loves sharing this passion with others. She believes that the art of ceramics should be a blend of fun and knowledge. Wednesdays and Thursdays - Jack Parnaby
Jack Parnaby is a Melbourne based ceramicist who works full time as a studio tech and wheel throwing teacher across multiple studios in Melbourne. Jack’s relationship to clay comes from his ongoing search for his own unique style and identity in the pottery world. Whilst Jack’s work is always changing and evolving his practice remains a product of a thorough education and a labour of refinery and discipline. The curly boy project is something that Jack created to record and showcase his progress from his continuing exploration. Since Jack started teaching in 2019 he has managed to relay his knowledge of the process to many students starting their journey into the pottery art form. To see examples of his work click here.
