Expressive Self Portraits
Description
In this fun and relaxed 3 hour workshop, you will learn dynamic techniques for creating your own self portrait.
Self portraits are a wonderful means for self exploration and reflection. In this workshop, you will be guided by local artist Milla Weideman in bringing your portrait to life.
Using acrylic paint and charcoal on cardboard or paper, you will learn techniques for expressive portrait painting. Milla will guide you through capturing the proportions of the head, colour mixing and mark making. Above all, there will be an emphasis on expression over accuracy, and character over likeness.
This workshop is for ages 16+. All skill levels are welcome to attend.
Acrylic paint, charcoal, paper and cardboard will be provided. Please feel free to bring your own materials.
Participants are kindly asked to prepare a reference image in advance, either printed or on a device. Alternatively, participants may also bring a small mirror.
(While self portraits are highly encouraged, participants may also paint a portrait of a loved one.)
