Description

Back by popular demand: Learn the art of weaving and working in miniature at Opendrawer in January.

Miniature weaving’s can be taken with you and worked on at anytime, anywhere! Explore simple design ideas through incorporating shapes and the use of colour, to make an interesting and beautiful gift card or a 2D art weaving. You will use embroidery threads and tapestry weaving techniques, without the need for a loom. 

Miniature weavings are the perfect “take-away” craft. Carry all your requirements in your pocket and work on the train, in the waiting room, or on the ‘plane.

Date: Monday 22 January 2018. Time: 10am-4pm

About the tutor: Sue Traylen is an experienced local textile artist who has taught several classes at Opendrawer. She is a very popular tutor for her gentle and approachable manner, and her quiet sense of fun. We particularly admire her great sense of colour & form, and are proud to feature her woven pieces for sale in Opendrawer's shop.

What you will learn
  • Learn to set up a 'loom' you can carry in your pocket using board and pins
  • Using a variety of embroidery threads, learn the art of miniature weaving.
  • Learn ways of displaying or mounting your weaving.
What you will get
  • Take home your own miniature tapestry weaving that you can mount on a card or display as an art piece.

What to bring
  • Small headed straight pins, white or cream sewing thread, and scissors.
  • Pen and notebook.
  • Other materials provided by Sue. ($10 material fee to be paid on the day).
What to wear

Comfortable clothing for sitting & crafting.

Appropriate for

Adults 15 years and older, no experience necessary.

Refund & Cancellation Policy

If for any reason you decide that the workshop you have done or are doing does not suit you, then that is a personal decision and no refund will be given.

If Opendrawer cancels a workshop, you will be given a full refund or can choose a replacement workshop to the same value as the workshop being cancelled. You will be notified at least 2 days before the due date of the workshop if cancellation is necessary due to insufficient enrolments.

Terms & Conditions

A $10 admin fee applies to all changes of date/workshop bookings.

Cancellations made within two weeks of the booked workshop will forfeit 50% of the advertised fee - or you may find a replacement student.

Cancellations made within 24 hours of the workshop will forfeit the full advertised fee - or you may find a replacement student.

A minimum of five people are required for a workshop to run. Opendrawer reserves the right to cancel a workshop if the minimum booking is not achieved. Full refunds will be given or a replacement workshop offered to the same value as the workshop being cancelled. You will be notified at least 2 days before the due date of the workshop if cancellation is deemed necessary. Unfortunately, due to the workshop timetable, no makeup classes are available.

This was a magical class, beautifully taught. I found working on such a tiny scale is very rewarding. Sue Traylen is very generous and encouraging. Highly recommend.
