  • constructive drawing, geometric solids and volume
  • formal and exploratory drawing techniques
  • rendering techniques to accurately describe form and tone
  •  'drawing in the flat’ including masterwork transcriptions / studies

This four-week course follows a series of exercises to deepen appreciation and analysis of artworks and of our immediate surroundings, assisting students to learn to draw accurately both from life and from master copies. A range of media including charcoal, graphite,  coloured pencil, coloured chalk and its application will be used.

This course is suitable for students who already have basic drawing skills or who have completed our Drawing Studio 1 course.  There will be demonstrations and one-on-one guidance throughout the course.

Julian was an excellent teacher, thank you. This course has a wonderful balance of guidance and instruction with plenty of time to explore your drawing practice. The life drawing in the final week was a real highlight. The class had a welcoming and relaxed atmosphere, and although I hadn't done much drawing for a few years, I felt very comfortable trying things out and asking Julian for advice when I needed it.

I found that this course built really well upon what I learned in Drawing Studio 1, and each class was challenging, inspiring. Julian taught us how to break down each drawing into smaller steps the way which was so crucial in learning how to see and then translate into the paper. Beautiful rooms, great atmosphere and delicious wine! plus I have gained valuable skills in drawing I didn’t think possible before. Couldn’t recommend enough.
