Join Muhubo in this colourful workshop, sharing her passion for her Somalian craftwork!
"My name is Muhubo Suleiman, I am from a small country town near Galkayo. I am arrived in Australia in 2003 in hope I could continue my passion of craft making. As a single mother of three I had to push aside my dreams and raise my three kids. As my youngest is now 9, I now have the time and opportunity to pursue my dreams in craft making. I specialize in handmade traditional rugs, bags and wall decorations. I also do henna painting for special occasions. This allows me to showcase my traditional Somali craft to a wider audience while at the some time preserving my cultural heritage."
PLEASE NOTE: the weaving taught in this class uses thicker sticks rather than the fine reeds from the Merri Creek to make the class easier for beginners.
- How to weave a Somali style and how these weavings are used in everyday life
