Jewellery Making Class for Beginners
Description
In this class you will learn one of the most popular and widely used techniques for stringing beads by both hobbyists and jewellery designers, that of tiger tail.
You’ll learn the basics of design so you can make your own necklace using the beads provided, as well as how to start and end a necklace and add a clasp. You’ll also learn how to make a pair of beaded drop earrings on head pins, and how to attach earring wires.
You’ll be able to have fun playing around with your beads to make your design on the bead board, and you’ll learn some technical skills such as using round nose and chain nose pliers. There will be examples on the table to inspire you too. We will have a range of bead colourways available, along with all of the findings (clasps, jump rings etc.) and tools you’ll need for your projects.
Suitable for absolute beginners – no experience necessary.
This is a small class, so you will have plenty of access to the tutor, as needed.

About your teacher:
After enjoying a long career in Public Relations, Julie Stephens found the craft of beading several years ago. The wonderful world of jewellery-making reignited her passion for creativity and for making. Jewellery design brings together her love of fashion, colour and the process of idea conception through to creation.
Julie learned her craft by attending many workshops and completing a jewellery design course with the New York Institute of Art & Design. Her handmade jewellery business, Julie Stephens Designs, was born out of her first collection as part of this course.
She sells her work via her website www.juliestephens.com.au and has a presence at Incube8r, a retail space and gallery for makers and artists in Fitzroy. You will also find her from time to time at various craft markets including Rose Street Artists’ Market, Kensington Market and Crft Wrk.
