If you’ve always wanted to learn how to crochet, starting your journey with its most classic motif - the granny square is the perfect place to begin. The granny square has been around for decades, and is one of the most versatile patterns there is and can be used to make anything from afghans to gorgeous garments.
Learning a Granny Square teaches you all the basic stitches - chains, double crochet and trebles preparing you to make your very first granny square.
Crochet is hugely popular at the moment and our Granny Square class is one of Syd and Wynnie's most popular, so be sure to book quickly so you don't miss out!
Everything's better with a friend, right? So why not bring a buddy and save on the price of your ticket!
The class takes place in my home studio. We have a couple of dogs (both small breeds, calm and settled and can be put outside if you'd prefer) and a rabbit, so if you are allergic please dose yourself with appropriate medication prior to arriving. I live in a quiet, little suburban Court, feel free to park along the sides of the street or on our lawn or nature strip, just please don't park across the neighbours driveway!!
I am an experienced teacher with endless patience, my classes are held in a fun and supportive environment and there is no such thing as a silly question!
If you feel a little nervous meeting new people (and lets face it, most of us are), you are welcome to arrive 10-15min early, check out my studio, fondle the yarn and make yourself comfortable before the class starts.
- This class is the perfect introduction to crochet, providing you with the all basic stitches and lots more
- Comprehensive notes and pictures and a completed Granny Square.
- A beginners pack can be purchased when booking or materials can be purchased in store.
Comfortable, casual clothing
This is a beginners class, no experience is necessary.

At Syd and Wynnie our aim is to share our passion of all things yarn and crafting. Knitting is a thousand year old craft that has influenced countless designers and makers throughout time. Best of all, the basics of knitting are very simple and easy to master. We like to encourage knitters, crocheters and yarn lovers in general to write their own stories with wool and other fine materials.
We aim to bring generations closer together and hope to offer a contemporary, inspiring and welcoming experience through every class or workshop we offer.
We believe in building long term customer relationships and truly enjoy being a part of our student’s creative journey offering guidance and encouragement along the way.
Leanne is an experienced teacher and has been knitting and crocheting for many years. Knitting is her love and teaching her passion. In everything we do we try to represent a positive attitude toward the world, sharing a concern about it’s resources and the way we take care of the planet.
