WATERCOLOURS INTENSIVE: A FUN AND FAST MOVING WORKSHOP WHERE STUDENTS LEARN, REVISE OR REVISIT A RANGE OF WATERCOLOUR TECHNIQUES.
The workshop begins with a range of technical exercises and finishes with students completing a small Still-life painting. Students will practice a number of essential watercolour techniques, with an emphasis on controlling the water and mixing and blending colours. Students will learn about the difference between papers and pigments, and gain some tips about how best to design and approach a finished watercolour painting. This workshop is suitable for beginners as well as those more experienced artists.
Subject matter – Floral, leafy and organic shapes.
PAINT COLOURS: TUBES OR DRY PALETTES
Basic essential cold/warm colours:
- pthalo/windsor blue
- ultramarine blue
- lemon yellow
- windsor yellow deep/indian yellow
- alizarin crimson/permanent alizarin
- + burnt sienna, yellow ochre
Students are welcome to bring other previously owned or preferred colours.
Handy additions might include: pthalo turquoise/green, magenta, Prussian blue.
Tutor recommends Windsor and Newton brand, Schminke, Daniel Smith (or equivalent quality). Student quality watercolour paints are cheaper, but are made with inks and synthetic dyes, not pigments, and therefore they don’t last as long and the colour quality is not as good.
Starting set: synthetic quality cheaper watercolour brushes are fine, approx sizes 4, 8, and 12.
Large deep pan watercolour palettes are preferred.
- 1 sheet size 58cm x 76cm 300gsm , medium grain 100% cotton watercolour paper (this is expensive, but buying in the large sheets is the most economical way. Brands most commonly found are Arches and Fabriano)
- 1x small pad (A4 size) of 300gsm watercolour paper: recommended brands are anything except Reeves

Sydney Art Space is the inspiration of multi-form artist and educator Christine Simpson who had the dream of creating an art’s environment that provided quality art courses, quality art tutors and diverse and interesting open forums and workshops for the larger community.
Being principal educator at The Shed Sculpture Studio for the past 12 years, with a Diploma in Education, and the completion of a Master of Fine Art and Master of Studio Art at Sydney University’s Sydney College of the Arts, Christine Simpson’s acquired arts practice-education knowledge has led to the reality of opening and delivering this quality arts teaching facility.
To create an art’s hub that gives people of all ages and stages, the ability to develop and enhance their creativity and confidence by learning real skills to begin and/or grow their arts practice in a safe, vital and fun learning environment is what Sydney Art Space is all about!
CANCELLATION AND REFUNDS
Sydney Art Space reserves the right to amend any class, tutor or schedule. In such circumstances, we will endeavour to provide a substitute of equal standing. Should a class have to be cancelled due to insufficient enrolments, any student enrolled in that class will be contacted and an alternative class or refund arranged.
Fees are non-refundable, unless negotiated for an extended illness, and there are no transfers, refunds or make up sessions if you miss a class or if your personal circumstances change.
CANCELLATION AND REFUNDS | TERM COURSES AND TERM WORKSHOPS
If you choose to withdraw from a course or workshop prior to 7 days before its commencement, you will be charged a $25 administration fee. You may transfer the remaining value (class fee paid less administration fee) to another class or student, to be used within 12 months of the date payment was received. You will not receive a refund for the course or workshop fee paid.
If you choose to withdraw from a course or workshop within 7 days of its commencement, you will be charged 50% of the class fee. You may transfer the remaining value (half of the value of the class fee paid) to another class or student, to be used within 12 months of the date payment was received. You will not receive a refund for the class fee paid.
NO refunds transfers or credits if you withdraw or cancel on the day of the course or workshop.

CANCELLATION AND REFUNDS | SCHOOL HOLIDAY WORKSHOPS
If you choose to withdraw from a workshop 7 days or more before the date of the workshop, you may transfer the fee credit to another workshop within the same holiday program or the following school holiday workshop program only.
If you withdraw or cancel up to 48 hours before commencement, you will be charged a $10 administration fee. You may transfer the remaining value (workshop fee paid less administration fee) to another workshop within the same holiday program or the following school holiday workshop program. You will not receive a refund for the workshop fee paid.
If you withdraw or cancel within 48 hours of commencement, you will be charged 50% of the workshop fee. You may transfer the remaining value (half of the value of the workshop fee paid) to another workshop within the same holiday program. You will not receive a refund for the workshop fee paid.
