Learn the ancient process of sand casting to create your own wearable objects out of metal

In this two-part class you will be introduced to the process of sand casting to create small metal objects and jewellery. The course fee includes all materials including over $50 worth of metal, gas, sand, etc.


We Will Cover:

  • the essential elements needed to select a successful pattern for sand casting
  • creating a mould from sand
  • pouring molten metal safely and correctly
  • cleaning up a metal casting
  • using a blow torch to melt down metal

 You will leave with a metal object cast in bronze made from something you bring from home.  You could cast a ring, something for your keyring, a piece of jewellery or any other small object, the possibilities are endless!


Majella Beck is a powerhouse of knowledge on anything metal.  A jeweller, object designer and teacher based in Sydney, Majella combines precious and non-precious materials and sees her work as a constant exploration and evaluation of what makes jewellery precious. She currently teaches a variety of courses relating to contemporary jewellery and objects.  Her passion for sharing knowledge and creative thinking is inspiring.  Majella participates regularly in exhibitions and has work held in private collections.

You will be sure to come out of a class with Majella even more excited and energised than you went it.  She will ignite your passion for working with metal and help you see its endless possibilities.

Student age 

MakerSpace is an 18+ facility, and our classes and facilities are designed for adults.

Disabled access 

Unfortunately our new space cannot offer suitable wheelchair access. We are currently working on improving our facilities to make them accessible for all. 


We have very limited parking spaces on Gerald Street so if you're driving here please allow time to look for parking on our street or nearby streets.

Students must wear covered shoes, have long hair tied back and wear appropriate safety gear when using equipment.  All students will be shown how to use appropriate PPE (personal protective equipment).

 MakerSpace &company and its tutors will provide training in how to use all equipment and relevant machinery and tools to students during the course.  It is essential that no equipment or machinery be used while under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

 While all care will be taken, it is the responsibility of the student to follow all instructions and use all the equipment in a safe and responsible manner.

I loved this class! The teacher was very informative and provided knowledge and tips throughout the session. She guided and supported each student. I am definitely going back to MakerSpace and Co for more classes.

Anyone partaking in any classes or coming to any events at MakerSpace & Company or organised by MakerSpace & Company must agree to these terms and conditions.

 Cancellations: We rarely cancel classes, but occasional things come up beyond our control. Our classes are very small to ensure you have a great learning experience, but we need a minimum of 4 students to run most of our classes. If a class is cancelled, we will get in touch by phone or email, and discuss your options which include refund, credit or transfer to another date. 

Kids in classes: MakerSpace classes are designed for adults. Kids aged 14-17 can book this class on the condition that an accompanying adult also participates - which means booking two places. If you have questions about kids in the workshop, please read this.
