Phillip Noakes will assist you to make a sterling silver spoon in two, three hour classes on a Saturday afternoon 1.30pm to 4.30 pm. 

You will learn how to shape the spoon with hammers and rolling mills.

The hammered spoon is then burnished with steel and agate burnishers to a hand polished finish.

All materials and sterling silver for one spoon is included in the cost of $155.00

We are a contemporary jewellery studio and gallery run by local jeweller Philip Noakes, who has over forty years experience in making and teaching in the industry. Philip has exhibited extensively around Australia, and makes his own work and private commisions, as well as teaching from the studio.

Contemporary Metal offers jewellers and students access to a fully equipped studio including: rolling mill, soldering and melting torches, pendant drills, vacuum casting, vulcaniser and wax injector, hydraulic press, lathe, tumbler, polisher, ultrasonic, large dapping sets and lapidary equipment.

We have benches available for hire on a casual, weekly or ongoing basis.

I love going to Contempory Metal. Phillip is patient and generous. One feels so proud leaving with a handmade treasure.

Fantastic class Ultimately a very satisfying workshop which resulted in a beautiful sterling silver spoon. Will be making more of these! Philip Noakes has the patience of a saint!
