Join Brisbane-based printmaker Kay Watanabe to learn how to create a beautiful print, using a rubbery printmaking tool commonly known as a gel plate.

The plate is a modern substitute for a gelatin plate which has been used to create a one-off print called monoprint. Unlike traditional gelatin slabs which are made of real gelatin and which eventually deteriorate, gel plates are reusable. They also allow artists and crafters to create a monoprint easily without using special printing tools such as an etching press.

In this workshop Kay will teach you how you can hand print using gel plates and invite you to print different patterns using leaves and objects as stencils to create lovely artworks of your own.  You will take home a few small (postcard size) works on paper.

Participants use a gel plate during the class but this is not to be taken home. Kay will provide information about where to purchase the gel plates.

No printmaking, drawing, painting experience required.

Special introductory price of $60, normally $65.
