Sip & Snip Collage Workshop (18+)
(Private Dates Available)
Description
Need some time out? Need an escape? Then become the creator of your very own visual journey where you get to dabble in what some artists may call the dark arts of contemporary art, i.e. collage. Why? Because have you ever been told NOT to cut up books? Exactly! In this workshop, you’ll be ENCOURAGED to do just that! But instead of destroying things, you’ll get to create a whole new world of your own – almost like a dream, but on paper.
Bring along yourself and/or a playmate – be it your bestie, secret-not-so-secret crush, visiting family/friends, date or loved ones and surprise yourself with the always-unexpected result of the most unique piece of art straight from your imagination!
You’ll be presented with an eclectic collection of a specially curated selection of paper paraphernalia (vintage children’s books, encyclopaedias, National Geographics, calendars from olde, etc) and led through a step-by-step approach. The deeper we go into the workshop, the more freedom you’ll have, but I’ll be there to gently guide you all along the way, without being invasive.
Welcome to the incomparable thrill of cutting into what you’ve always been told wasn’t allowed. You’ll cut out ONLY the parts that resonate with YOU, that matter and stand out to YOU. The result will be something UNIQUELY YOU.
Groups are kept small (max 7) so it’s not overwhelming, and light refreshments & French background music will be served. You’ll be sitting in the dreamiest, light-filled studio on the planet, situated next to a stunning pool with water fountains. It’s a healing sort of place – one that makes people leave with a smile.
Also available for PRIVATE Sip & Snip workshops on-site AND off-site (max 12 people). Please go HERE for more details.

Hi, my name is Rochelle Van Der Merwe
As multi-disciplinary artist, I find exploring ideas through storytelling with imagery & words
via contemporary collage
a very effective way of connection
&
creating a sense of
BELONGING.
Collage allows us to deconstruct & reconstruct the world how we see it.
It gives you an opportunity to
create a new universe,
irrespective of how
small
or
large
it
is.
I am especially drawn to how contemporary collage gives new life &meaning
to pre-used books and imagery,
so they no longer lie alone in the corner and gather dust.
We already have so much in this world,
so collage offers
an opportunity
to
waste less
&
rebuild.
My studio,
named STORYHOLDING
is located at the pool in
MONTSALVAT, Australia's oldest continuously active artists' community.
In fact,
it's my MOST FAVOURITE room
in
the
whole, wide world.
Read all about it HERE!
My work has been featured in both SOLO & group exhibitions
As an immigrant from South Africa & as a trauma survivor,
I am passionate about using art-making
as a way to thread our connection back to
our authentic selves
&
true expression.
What drives me, is to share & learn,
which is why teaching has always
drawn me like a magnet.
Your Teacher
My name is Rochelle Van Der Merwe, owner of STORYHOLDING - a small studio with a BIG heart.
I am a multidisciplinary artist with a special interest in storytelling through the Written Word, Contemporary Collage and Fine Art Photography.
I create original contemporary collage art pieces for exhibitions and sell limited-edition archival fine art prints.
Working with my hands is essential to connecting me back to a centre of calm. It brings me so much joy, that I find great pleasure in sharing my learnings through offering workshops, term classes, private bookings, and collaborations with learning institutions and other projects.
