Description

Learn the beautiful art of Japanese stab binding. Filled with history and meaning these simple little bindings are a wonderful way of producing your own books from single sheets. Once you have the technique your creative imagination can run wild with interesting designs and interpretations of these traditional books.

ABOUT CALI ANDERSEN

I have been bookbinding for 10 years, I have completed multiple courses on the craft of book binding, both here and overseas; worked with leading Australian and international practitioners; and established Andersen’s Bindery in Great Buckingham Street, Redfern. I feel incredibly lucky to have discovered book binding as my vocation in life.

There’s flimsiness and disposability to contemporary mass-produced books, whereas a handmade book is a uniquely beautiful object made to last. For me a handcrafted book means that intricate care, creativity and enjoyment have gone into every stage of its production. I particularly love that each book I make has its own particular look, feel and smell.
