In a nutshell Alicia finds most of her inspiration in stories, fairy tales and ancient mythology. It doesn’t matter what form they take – they could be consumed as a written text, an illustration, or and modern-day film remake.
She believes in the power of stories in their ability to enrich our lives, stir our imaginations, inspire us to create new fantastical things and pass them onto other people.
Alicia will take you the creation of mythical and magical imagery using a variety of illustration/drawing techniques along with ideas in composing, narrating and design fundamentals.
About Alicia McFadzean
My name is Alicia (aka Cheeky Observer). I am a local Sydney artist who likes to dabble in illustration, hand lettering and mural work.
Working across a broad range of media, and both on small and large scales, I love the tactile process of creating things with my hands. My inspiration comes from a dynamic array of sources – my favourites include mythology, fairytales, ancient history, contemporary forms of street art and the natural environment.
Over the past few years I’ve had the pleasure of working on some awesome art projects with Revlon, Oportos, COMMUNE, Project OKYO, and more. Feel free to take a peek at some of my some of my work and come along to the class if you like what you see – I’d love to pass on a few cheeky illustration techniques for anyone who is keen to learn!
- Use fairytales and mythology for inspiration and idea generation. Explore different legends and symbolic imagery.
- Add shading and text into an image and composition.
- Create a focal point and working on composition.
- A strong list of drawing techniques
- Skills in photo scaling and manipulation
- Compass and protractor
- A copy of your favourite fiction book, fairytale, picture book or ancient history text.
