This is a relaxing class for someone who wants to be more expressive with their art making. Fresh flowers will be provided and we will experiment with watercolour, ink and coloured pencils.
Great for flower and art lovers! During the workshop, Carmen will guide you through the different stages of starting an original drawing. She will talk about how to find a composition and layout style that works for you, tricks of the trade, choosing the right colour palette, using the grid as a tool and layering to build depth.
It will be fun and slightly messy, and you will go home with your very own piece of artwork which you will treasure forever.
Carmen is an artist/illustrator from Sydney’s Inner West. She creates original pencil drawings and art prints with a focus on animals and botanicals. Her work are extremely delicate and whimsical and have many times in the past been referenced to Beatrix Potter. Her drawings are highly collectible and has been seen in a range of group and solo exhibitions around Australia.
Carmen shared her intricate pencil drawing style with us and gave us suggestions on how to approach drawing a rose from a "live" rose, which we then tried to put into practice. She encouraged us to develop our own style and looked at everybody's progress during the class. She pointed out what could be done further to make the illustration look more realistic. There is only so much that can be fitted into two hours, but it was a good start and also an encouragement to take it further. – Earlier comments about the location have been considered, there are heaters above the tables, and most tables have adequate light. – The instructor has colour pencils to share, but if you have your own collection, take it along. There was no need for brushes. – I do recommend this class, especially if you need a bit of encouragement in your drawing skills.
Great class - such a pleasure to be in the presence of a humble yet so talented artist. Would definately recommend! I loved the fact it was an intimate class so that Carmen was able to spend more one on one time with each student.
Brilliant- loved it! Carmen is a very talented artist and a patient and encouraging teacher. I will definitely join her future classes.
