In this 3 hour workshop aimed at complete beginners, through to those with some painting experience, you will learn to paint a pet portrait in five simple steps: sketch, line drawing, two gouache washes and detail painting.
Students will learn about drawing from sight, colour mixing, and how to blend, wash and layer gouache. This workshop is about painting a portrait representative of personality rather than photo-realism, so if you’ve got a hairy (or hairless!) friend with a big attitude this one’s for you!
By the end of the class students will have their own A4 one of a kind pet portrait to take home or to gift on.
Seth Searle lives in Melbourne, spending half her week as an illustrator and the other half working at a kindergarten in North Fitzroy. After a solo show she had in 2013 someone commissioned her to draw their two dogs and she realized that pet portraiture was a really great way to combine two of her favourtie things: drawing and dogs! From then on she began to receive commissions regularly, and it slowly grew into a small part time business.
In her spare time Seth she loves trading work and exhibiting with other local artists and makers, tending to her vegie garden and hanging out with her buddy River (the dog).
This class was so much fun! A great balance between guided learning and independent experimenting, in a gorgeous space with lovely teachers. Highly recommended for pet lovers of any artistic ability.
