'Make More Mishaps' - An Introduction to Street Art Techniques

Description

This workshop is all about embracing your mistakes and exploring new mediums and street-art techniques to create unexpected outcomes from your own home or studio!

Melbourne Artist, Muralist & Jeweller, Mishap, will show you how to be a badass and break the rules of your own art-making practice. Using street-art techniques and new perspectives, you'll hone your new skills to create an artwork on a plywood panel which you get to take home.

With 18 years of experimenting with paint on canvas and found objects, and over 10 years painting on the street, Mishap will share her own art making practice and the many techniques she has acquired along the way.

Skills covered include:

  • Basic masking and stencil making techniques including how to apply stencils using low-tack adhesive
  • Can control and introduction to spray painting  (types of caps/ nozzels to use, can pressure, types of paint, spray paint techniques) to use on canvas/artwork as well as introduction to using paint pens for this purpose.
  • Knowledge on colour selection, how to get popping colors/clean outlines and little tricks of the trade that will give you a professional finish with a street-art edge.

This workshop coincides with Mishap's 'A Thugz Rap Sprays' Solo Exhibition at Work-Shop Melbourne on Friday 11th November at 7pm. There’ll be a collection of original artworks by Mishap, a playful interactive graffiti mural where guests can write on the gallery walls, models dressed as Mishap characters handing out refreshments and live beats - make sure you mark it in your calendar!
