In conjunction with the The Design Conference & thanks to K W Doggett Papers, Spenceroni will be running a FREE creative play workshop, designed to give you the chance to get in touch with your inner child, experiment, have fun and create some beautiful artworks.
You’ll be working with the artist, Spenceroni, to create colourful, patterned papers using a variety of different techniques and approaches. Using these papers we will use the collage technique to create surreal, abstract illustrations of plants and still life scenes.
During the workshop you will also learn more about the history of artists that use colour, pattern and abstraction and draw inspiration from their works. You’ll also be be mentored and guided by Spencer, given feedback on how to compose your artworks and combine colours and patterns effectively. Most of all the workshop will be lot’s of fun and a chance to get your hands dirty and try something new!
Spencer Harrison is a graphic artist and illustrator based in Melbourne, Australia. Behind his energetic and vivid creations is a playful imagination and fascination with daydreams, science, nature and fun.
A colourful palette brings his playful illustrations, patterns, objects and commercial projects to life. Alongside exhibitions and producing his own artwork he works on commissioned illustrations for a range of clients, teaches graphic design and collaborates with various brands producing repeat patterns for textiles and products.
Outside of the studio he can be found cooking up a storm in the kitchen, adventuring with friends, tending to his garden bed or curled up reading a good book with a good cup of tea.
ABOUT THE DESIGN CONFERENCE
Five years ago we started dreaming of designing an event experience, tailored to the creative industry. We envisioned world class speakers, incredible audio-visual production, interactive side-events and hands on learning opportunities. This is ultimately an event which provides a high-value experience for its audience, speakers, supporters and sponsors.
In 2011, we made our biggest step — the first. What we lacked in experience was overshadowed by our ability to deliver a unique event that people loved. The next 3 years were spent expanding the event into the Gold Coast, Brisbane, Adelaide, Sydney and Melbourne, before returning our focus to our creative locale: Brisbane.
With four years under our belt, The Design Conference 2015 was delivered at the Brisbane Powerhouse, a world class venue in the heart of Brisbane. We were humbled by the positive feedback, which was perhaps best epitomised by Andy Wright, from ‘For The People’, who tweeted “…it was the best event I’ve ever been to…”
We cant wait for this years event. It will be a dream come true.
We love you Brisbane.
