Peace Of Paper - The Mindful Art of Paper Cutting

Description

Paper cutting allows our brains to unwind. A full stop in life. These don’t get handed out often.

Paper cutting, a meditative creative action that allows a single point of focus. Where all other things can melt away. The theory of flow, where people are happiest when they are in a state of flow—a state of concentration or complete absorption with the activity at hand and the situation. It is a state in which people are so involved in an activity that nothing else seems to matter. The theory of flow was developed by Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi and is pretty much saying “ Man, I was so in the zone!” or “ Couldn’t pick up my phone, was so in the groove!”. It’s a space between boredom and anxiety. It’s a space that paper cutting creates.

This meditative paper cut workshop will teach the basics of paper cutting, with an array of hand chosen templates to test your skills and allow these skills to flourish in a supportive, calm creative environment. You can be content to feel supported with a teacher that understands the balance between guidance and personal creative space.Tea and calm atmosphere will be provided to warm your experience.

Designs will delve into the realm of Mandala and Sacred Geometry. Creating geometric and repeating patterns, These will allow you to skip the design process and engage fully with technique and the experience of flow.

At the end of this workshop, you’ll have a delicate paper cut to take home. Also taking home an understanding of the art of paper cutting and maybe a more calm, centered, creative you.

Come with a friend, or feel free to come alone. This workshop will allow you the space to switch off and remain present.

ABOUT BRYANNA PEARL

We all travel from one place to another, weaving a web of stories as we do.

It is this web and these stories that fuel my passion for paper cutting, creativity and self expression.Bryanna Pearl holds a Bachelor of Art Education, teaching in many different areas before settling in Melbourne.Through a love of stencil screen printing throughout  time at COFA, lead on to a lust of positive space and the fragility of paper, I found paper cutting and all its intricacies.

Paper cutting became a way to tell story, to delve deeper but also to pause. Paper cutting as meditation is a big theme in my art practice. As are words and the act of story telling, myth, poetry and communication.Exhibiting frequently throughout Melbourne, have now bunkered down to teach the arts of joyful and mindful paper cutting, offering service to the world and begrudgingly teaching myself InDesign to write my first book.

A lover of all things creative, crafty, expressive and soulful. I’m a jane of all trades and a master of some!I offer commissioned pieces and sell frequently to a variety of audiences.Bryannapearl.com@bryanna_pearlpapercutting@bryannapearl.com
