Handmade Books - Make a Coptic Bound Notebook

Description

In this class you will gain an introduction to the basics of book binding, and the tools, skills and materials required to make your own journals and notebooks.

Workshop teacher, Joanna Kambourian, will take you through the process of binding your a notebook or journal using an exposed, decorative stitch (Coptic Stitch) to secure the pages and covers. You will leave the class with your own handmade book to keep. The class is aimed at all levels, however all kinds of artists and creatives can benefit from the technique and apply this in their practice. Or just come and make a gorgeous notebook to use yourself or give to someone for a unique gift.

ABOUT YOUR TEACHER

Joanna is a visual artist, designer and traditional printmaker who utilises the book form in her practice and will also have her extensive Artists Book Collection on display for you to check out during the workshop. Whilst studying in New York City in 2006 she had the opportunity to study binding and Artists' Books at Pratt Institute and has been making book forms since. 27 November 2016 • Handmade Books - Make a Coptic Bound Notebook

I couldn't recommend the Coptic bookbinding course enough!!! Jo was a fantastic teacher who showed us some astonishing examples of her previous artist books and gave us great little "show bags" with all necessary tools and goodies in there. She was patient and thorough and the attention to detail was really impressive. It was really well priced for how much went into it and I look forward to doing a follow up advanced bookbing class. 10/10
