ABOUT VANESSA VANDERHAVEN

I started illustration about 6 years ago during my fashion studies. Most of my drawings were of fashion models with a blank face, and if it weren’t for a specific class project on fashion portrait work, I might never have found my passion for illustration. I rejected a lot of the techniques taught at school and sort of found my own way and style after I left - a good lesson is that you don’t have to do things exactly as you were taught! So this is the basis of my work: exploring and experimenting. I began with drawing only faces in B&W then slowly introduced colour and different mediums. Drawing is meant to be enjoyable and expressive, and there’s nothing you can’t learn with a bit of practice :)
