Description

Monika’s passion and specialty is making wall hangings and tapestry that are both rich in colour and texture.

While Monika was searching for ‘one of a kind’ tapestries materials, she discovered botanical dyeing, which allowed her to produce unique yarn colours herself.

During this  2 hour Botanical dyeing workshop, you’ll be taught where to look for dyes, how to effectively mordant the fabric and how to prepare a dye bath.

This workshop is suited for knitters, weavers, spinners, or anyone looking to create their own beautiful plant-based dyes; with each student learning how to dye their chosen material. Included in the package to take home is an e-book on botanical dying and a hank of hand-dyed wool.

This is a beginners class and no prior knowledge is required.

ABOUT MONIKA FROM MO & MUM

Monika, one half of the Mo & Mum duo, is a Polish born Berliner, textile artist and designer who’s just moved to Melbourne. The idea for the handcrafting duet came to life when Monika and her Mum would help each other while exploring their creativity through textile art. Monika focussed on weaving and macrame which she’s loved from day one, while her Mum went for embroidery and knitting.

“Like an artist paints a painting, we weave a weaving” With a passion for art and design, Monika found she could express her creativity through textiles and weaving. She started teaching ‘work shops’ in Berlin, just as the exciting city caught the weaving bug. Monika’s classes have been a big success, with the latest booking out in only two days!

While Monika is preparing to work on some large scale pieces, she’s looking forward to travel to various parts of Australia and spreading her love for colour and natural fibres through teaching.

Good introduction into dyeing with natural products. It would have been good to see some more samples of different colours that can be achieved with different dye items. The included e-book is very handy though
