In this workshop, you will learn all about the natural dyeing process using kitchen waste!
The aim of the workshop is to provide a grounding in Natural dyeing. You will be gain knowledge about the technical requirements of the natural dyeing process including information about mordants, sustainability of dyeing, commercial and natural dye extracts, blending and overdyeing, fabrics, care of dyed goods and how to find dyes in your very own home!
You will be using at least 3 different types of dye and dye colours and learn how to use modifiers to create a variety of colours from each dye.
You will also learn how to achieve intriguing patterns with Shibori resist methods using various folding techniques to achieve remarkable patterns and one of a kind designs.
Each participant will experience hands-on dying of fabric samples and a tote bag (or tea towel) to take home with you.
ABOUT YOUR TEACHER
Bettina Ludowici is the owner and resident artist with DyeHaus studios in Sydney, whose passion is to scout the globe researching dye techniques to further expand her knowledge as a tutor of natural dyeing techniques.
Her studies and art have taken her to Japan for the Arimatsu Shibori Fesitval; to a workshop with Aboubakar Fofana on Making of a Natural Indigo Vat; to Provence to investigate ancient Natural Dye and Printing Techniques with Michel Garcia; as well as Java where Bettina could observe eastern Indigo Vat and Dyeing techniques along with wax batik.
Bettina holds a Diploma in Textile Design and has been dyeing since 1974.
DyeHaus uses natural as well as low-impact fibre-reactive dyes on natural fibres such as silk, cotton, linen, bamboo and hemp.

Anyone partaking in any classes or coming to any events at Work-Shop or organised by Work-Shop must agree to these terms and conditions.

2.) PHOTO & VIDEO
I agree to give Work-Shop unrestricted publishing rights for any photographs or videos taken at Work-Shop classes and events or on Work-Shop’s premises. (Don’t worry, we’ll only these use to show others how much of a rad time you’re having through social media, newsletters, blogs, website and general Work-Shop promo material)
