Have you ever wanted to learn the foundational skills to create portrait drawings? 


In this Intro to Portrait Drawing you will be guided through the foundations of drawing a portrait using a variety of materials and techniques. This course will build your confidence and speed in portrait drawing and covers both quick sketches, as well as more rendered studies. During this workshop you will learn both technical aspects of portraiture as well as some more experimental and creative approaches to let your inner artist shine through! Within the course, you will practice and develop different drawing techniques, learn about anatomical structures and planes of the face and head, and gain a practical understanding of observation and life drawing skills.

About Julia Townsend

Julia Townsend is a South Australian based Artist specialising in painting and drawing. She has studied art in both France and Australia, and has exhibited extensively. Julia is very passionate about creativity and self-expression, and uses painting and drawing as a means of achieving this. She has a strong sense of colour and form within her work, and a great interest in abstraction and contemporary art.

  • Photographs of portraits to work from (optional). (Artist to advise what is suitable for the class techniques. Please note- A variety of photographs will be available to use for the class.)
What to wear

Dress in clothes that can get a little dirty! (We will be working with charcoal)

Cancellation & Refund Policy

REFUNDS

Work-Shop requires 48 hours notice in writing prior to the class for a full refund or transfer.  Refunds and transfers will not be processed if cancellation occurs within 48 hours of the event commencing. If you do miss this window, earn some extra karma points and give your ticket to one of your buddies. For cancellations prior to the 48 hour cut off, email learn@work-shop.com.au to organise a refund or transfer.

CANCELLATIONS

We’ll do our darndest to run all scheduled classes, however, let’s face it… sometimes shit happens! Most of our classes must have a minimum of 5 participants before we can put them on. In the event that a class is cancelled, students will be notified via text message or email and entitled to a full refund or credit.

Anyone partaking in any classes or coming to any events at Work-Shop or organised by Work-Shop must agree to these terms and conditions.

2.) PHOTO & VIDEO

I agree to give Work-Shop unrestricted publishing rights for any photographs or videos taken at Work-Shop classes and events or on Work-Shop’s premises. (Don’t worry, we’ll only these use to show others how much of a rad time you’re having through social media, newsletters, blogs, website and general Work-Shop promo material)

Enjoyed 3 hours of sketching/drawing under expert guidance. Tried mediums and paper I had never thought to use and was amazed at the different effects. Made me want to do more so will sign up for other classes.

Great Contemporary Space and really engaging class. Wide range of drawing materials were supplied and the lovely Julia Townsend kept the session moving along offering her valued expertise to each person. I picked up some great tips and look forward to hopefully attending another session soon.
