Create on Country

Art making & Aboriginal Culture in Hunter Valley

Book Now (

Ephemeral art making in Yengo National Park with Australian contemporary artist Greer Taylor and Local Aboriginal Man, Tim Selwyn.

In an inclusive environment, this interactive workshop introduces you to Country, providing the opportunity for deep learning and reflection through hands-on art making.  All experience levels welcome.

For Aboriginal people, 'Country' doesn't just mean the bush, its creeks, rocky outcrops, hills and waterholes. Country is about all living things – people, plants and animals. It embraces the seasons, stories and creation spirits. Country is both a place of belonging and a way of believing.

You’ll be guided by Tim to a new place of sensing the land, and experiencing its ancient knowledge as it is revealed in the beauty of minute details and majestic natural formations.

Greer and Tim will lead you through a series of exploratory exercises to build confidence in making art in nature, while reflecting on the timeless tradition of ceremonial mark-making utilising consciously collected, natural materials from the environment.

There will be time for talking and time for quiet reflection as you begin to explore and create your own unique artwork to photograph.

In respect for the land, and calling to mind the acute beauty of transience and the importance of capturing each moment as a treasured experience, all artworks will be dismantled and the site returned to its natural state on completion of our session.

This workshop is presented by Girri Girra Aboriginal Experiences and ARTeConnect in conjunction with Wollombi Sculpture in the Vineyards, a unique annual Hunter Valley art experience.

Girri Girra offer Aboriginal guided tours and cultural experiences to private groups, schools and corporates on the NSW Central Coast and Hunter Regions.

ARTeConnect is where art & technology collide with big ideas to inform, educate and inspire through creative programs and new experiences.
