Make a backstrap loom

Learn to make and weave on the backstrap loom, a traditional loom type still in use today. This deceptively simple loom is portable and rolls up when not in use, and is an affordable option for new weavers as well as a new challenge for those experienced with other types of looms.

Several types of shedding mechanism  work equally well on a back strap loom, including rigid heddle, string heddles and weaving tablets. Beautiful weaving can also be done with equipment made from repurposed household items.

In this class we will make 40cm wide looms with their necessary tools and dress the loom for a handwoven backstrap.
