Support spindle basics and beyond


If you're a wheel spinner or spindler who's been intrigued by support spindles but wasn't sure where to start, this is the class for you. 

In this hands-on session you'll be guided through support spindle spinning using the park and draft method, working up to a fluid long draw.

You'll experiment with a variety of spindles and spindle supports, and ways to ply your singles.  There will also be a discussion of fibre preparation techniques for support spindling and use of distaffs.

  • How to use a variety of spindles and support tools to create beautiful woolen-spun yarn
  • Techniques for a smooth long draw
  • How to ply your spindle-spun yarn

  • Lots of tips and guidance from an experienced spinner

Appropriate for

Preparation

What to bring

  • Wool fibre - roving or top (can be purchased on the day)
  • 2 or 3 cardboard toilet or kitchen paper rolls
  • (Optional) A lazy kate, support spindle and bowl

Your Teacher

Caroline has been an art and craft teacher for nearly 40 years, teaching primary, secondary and adults. She has been a spinner for over 40 years and in the last few years has become enamoured with the rich history and portability of the support spindle.  She gets a real joy out of sharing knowledge and seeing people gain new skills.

If the organiser cancels the class:

You are entitled to a full refund.

If you can't attend the class:

You’re welcome to send someone in your place.

  • A refund can be requested 7 days before class starts. Free of charge.
  • A transfer can be requested 7 days before the class starts. Free of charge.

No changes will be allowed after these times.
