Frequently Asked Questions

  • Most pottery classes include clay, tools, and firing costs. For example, beginner wheel courses typically include 4-10kg of clay per course, all necessary pottery tools, and kiln firing and glazing of finished pieces. Taster classes (2 hours) include materials and firing of 2-3 pieces. Some courses like Studio Access Times provide additional studio clay available for purchase at $19 per kilogram.

  • Finished pieces are typically ready for collection within 3-4 weeks after your class ends. You will receive an email notification when your work is available to pick up. Studios usually hold pieces for a limited time before they are recycled, so plan to collect within the specified timeframe. Some studios offer postage options at your own cost if collection isn't possible.

  • No. Most pottery classes are designed for complete beginners with no experience required. Beginner wheel workshops, taster classes, and introductory courses are specifically structured to teach foundational techniques from scratch. However, some advanced courses (intermediate and advanced levels) do require completion of 2-3 beginner terms or equivalent experience elsewhere.

  • Beginner taster classes (typically 2-2.5 hours) include structured instruction from experienced teachers, hands-on time at the wheel or with handbuilding techniques, all materials and clay, firing and glazing of 2-3 pieces, and small class sizes capped at 12 students. Class fees are all-inclusive with no additional costs for materials or firing.

  • Bring an apron and towel to each class. Wear clothes that can get dirty as pottery is a hands-on activity. Closed shoes are essential for safety around pottery wheels. Some classes offer complimentary beverages (wine or non-alcoholic options) as part of the experience, particularly for specialty evening classes.

  • Yes. Children's classes are available for ages 6 and up, with separate offerings for younger children (6-12 years) and teens (12-16 years). Family pottery classes accommodate both adults and children together, with ticket pricing that typically includes one adult and one child. Holiday pottery camps and school holiday workshops are also regularly offered.
