6 Week Intermediate Pottery Wheel Throwing Course

6 Week Intermediate Pottery Wheel Throwing Course

Learn how to throw bigger and more complex shapes

Description

Little Woods Studio is excited to introduce an intermediate level 6 week wheel throwing course.

This course has been designed for students looking to take their throwing skills to the next level. Over 6 weeks each student will have the option to pick a small project ranging from teapot, planter, mug set etc to complete with the guidance from our teacher Jack.

The main focus of this class is to introduce the idea of intention based practice, meaning students will have a specific shape, size and form that they will be aiming for. With basic throwing concepts already being understood, this course aims to give students the practical experience for more control on the wheel and ability to make complex forms.

Additional to the class content there will also be closer look at:

-Trimming with precision

-Working with 2 new clays types

-Decorative oxides

*This course is recommended for students with experience on the wheel, you are required to be able to center clay and pull the walls to make a cylinder.

The course will be limited to 8 participants, allowing for lots of individual tuition.

All biqsued/ glazed finished works are charged at $12 per Kilo.

Students are to provide their own clean towel and apron each class.

No shows will not be refunded, as we are a not for profit, any transfer of classes will incur a $10 fee to cover admin staff time. At this stage we do not have capacity for make up classes.

PLEASE WEAR COMFORTABLE CLOTHES AND SHOES YOU DON'T MIND GETTING DIRTY.

PLEASE MAKE SURE YOUR NAILS ARE SHORT, AS YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO USE THE WHEEL OTHERWISE.

Pieces can be collected 3 -4 week after the course finishes.

Our teacher for this class is Jack Parnaby

Jack is a Melbourne based ceramicist who works full time as a studio tech and wheel throwing teacher across multiple studios in Melbourne. Jack’s relationship to clay comes from his ongoing search for his own unique style and identity in the pottery world. Whilst Jack’s work is always changing and evolving his practice remains a product of a thorough education and a labour of refinery and discipline. The curly boy project is something that Jack created to record and showcase his progress from his continuing exploration. Since Jack started teaching in 2019 he has managed to relay his knowledge of the process to many students starting their journey into the pottery art form. To see examples of his work click here.
