The Boro Book

Boro stitching on paper

Book Now (https://weteachme.com/l/M73GoiQr)

Description

Have you ever stitched on paper? Sashiko stitching in the Japanese Boro style can be used to make attractive designs on paper as well as on fabric. Boro stitched fabric grew out of the need to repair old Indigo dyed cloth in early twentieth century rural Japan, while paper stitching as an art form can be traced back to the early 1800s.

This workshop will introduce you to different ways of stitching Indigo dyed papers to create beautiful mini artworks for the pages for your book. You will be guided through using the marks on the paper as a suggested design for your page.

Date: Tuesday 5 June

Time: 10:00am-3:00pm

Cost: $110 + materials fee of $10 to be paid directly to the tutor

Tutor: Barb Adams. The focus of Barb's work with paper is based on letting the paper suggest the form the work takes. As she colours, shapes and stitches, she works with the feelings these evoke rather than planning the end artwork.

Barb gave us a very informative introduction to her skills and knowledge of paper making and Boro. As a complete novice, I had a very memorable and enjoyable day and walked away with enough confidence to try more stitching and experimenting on my own. Hopefully to be followed up with another workshop. The energy and warmth of Open Drawer is impressive and there is so much on offer, it is a local treasure.
