Description

In this workshop, you'll learn to reuse old bicycle inner tubes to make unique, environmentally friendly jewellery. Your tutor Barbara will show you how to safely cut and manipulate them to make two pairs of earrings and a cuff bracelet. You'll leave the class with some basic jewellery making skills, and full of ideas about how to creatively repurpose things.

This class is suitable for those aged 15+.

Date: Saturday August 11

Time: 10:00am-3:00pm

Class fee: $109, plus a materials fee of $10 to be paid directly to the tutor on the day. 

Tutor: Barbara Niglio. Barbara studied fashion and worked for many years as a professional seamstress and dressmaker. Now, Barbara uses her diverse range of skills to create clothing, jewellery and objects from recycled materials.

Materials and equipment:  

  • Bicycle inner-tubes – bike shops are usually happy to give away used tubes. Barbara will have a small supply
  • Jewellery or electronics pliers and wire cutters if you have them. Barbara has a few tools that can be shared
  • You may like to bring a small selection of beads that can be used with the innertubes
  • Jewellery findings (head-pins, links, clasps, ear-wires etc) or tutor can supply a set for $4.00
  • A stitch unpicker (as used for unpicking stitching)
  • Pen, pencil, writing paper

What to bring
  • Please bring a pair of pliers (ideally jewellery making pliers), wire cutters and a stitch unpicker. A limited number of tools will be available to share.

Refund & Cancellation Policy

If for any reason you decide that the workshop you have done or are doing does not suit you, then that is a personal decision and no refund will be given.

If Opendrawer cancels a workshop, you will be given a full refund or can choose a replacement workshop to the same value as the workshop being cancelled. You will be notified at least 2 days before the due date of the workshop if cancellation is necessary due to insufficient enrolments.

A $10 admin fee applies to all changes of date/workshop bookings.

Cancellations made within two weeks of the booked workshop will forfeit 50% of the advertised fee - or you may find a replacement student.

Cancellations made within 24 hours of the workshop will forfeit the full advertised fee - or you may find a replacement student.

A minimum of five people are required for a workshop to run. Opendrawer reserves the right to cancel a workshop if the minimum booking is not achieved. Full refunds will be given or a replacement workshop offered to the same value as the workshop being cancelled. You will be notified at least 2 days before the due date of the workshop if cancellation is deemed necessary. Unfortunately, due to the workshop timetable, no makeup classes are available.
